There is plenty of friendly budget to mid-range accommodations that are acceptable for backpackers, families, or couples. A number of them even have standard scuba diving/snorkeling packages. To get a searchable splurge, travelers may board a charter flight from Bali directly into the Wakatobi Dive Resort, and a luxury eco stay on Tolandano island with lavish villas, spa services, and a yacht that may customize dive cruises.

- Hoga Island Dive Resort, Kaledupa
What we enjoy most about Wakatobi is the tranquility of the island, along with the contact you’ll have with the character. So why splurge in your lodging? We must admit that we were worried when we noticed this location is a ‘resort.’ However, what we discovered was heaven. This eco-resort is located on Hoga Island. Also, a 20-minute boat rides out of Kaledupa Island (transfer to Hoga IDR 50,000 an individual by local ship).
Traditional cottages are constructed on stilts among greenery facing the shore and the sea, each with its balcony and hammock for relaxing. There are also hammock areas on the beach where guests may see, meet for a cold beer, and see the magnificent sunset. Without internet access, phone reception (limited), and power (only available from 6 pm until 10 pm), the only things you can do would be snorkeling or diving, studying, or just sitting in a hammock and watching the fishing boats slide. So put back, your evening is planned around the circulation of the tides, the weather as well as the three meals that are beautifully ready by the friendly team.
We are starting from USD 60 – 80/night (average speeds for a Standard Room – such as 3x meals). Location: Hoga Island, Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.
- Patuno Resort Wakatobi, Wangi-Wangi
Lots of individuals think Wakatobi is expensive, but this resort proves it isn’t. Although this place does not have a high level of luxury, it has so much more to offer you. The beachfront atmosphere of this Patuno Resort Wakatobi and the preservation of their natural greenery and flowers surrounding the hotel enhance the romantic, peaceful, and secluded atmosphere. Natural building materials like teak, pinewood, coconut oil, rattan, and palm leaves can be used throughout the resort, including the organic ambiance. For honeymooners and those looking for a more romantic setting, the hotel’s jetty restaurant on the water is simply the thing. To keep you occupied during your stay, in addition, there are many fun activities you may enjoy, from biking (there is bike rental), diving, snorkeling, sailing, jet-skiing, and many more!
Start from USD 76/night (Standard Room). Location: Jalan Raya Patuno, Wangi-Wangi Island, Wakatobi Regency, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia. Contact: (+62) 811 400 2221.
- Wakatobi Dive Resort, Tomia
This is the location where you can delight in a specific degree of service, escapism, and tranquility that’s so hard to get these days – no visitors, no pollution, and no other dedicated dive resort for hundreds of miles. The diving is not more than only a stone’s throw away. Regardless of whether you take out the boat or spend some time on one of the superb house reefs, you are sure to find some of the most beautiful reefs which will take your breath away.
There are three types of accommodation at this hotel – the palm bungalows are nicely spaced from each other, and most have a sea view. The ocean bungalows sit closer to the front with uninterrupted views, boasting Asian fashion outdoor showers, sun loungers, and hammocks. Last but not least, you could also stay in one of their villas to make your vacation even more special. A stop at the spa is essential! And after the day, watch the sunset from the Jetty Bar accompanied by a fancy supper in their famous Beach Restaurant, which caters to all tastes. Good living surely does not get any better than this!
Start from USD 290/person each night (Palm Bungalow – all-inclusive). Location: Toledano Island, Tomia, Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Contact: (+62) 81 2381 1084 / (+62 361) 759 669 — Bali Representative. E-mail: office@wakatobi.com.
- Restaurant
Restaurants can be found in Wangi-Wangi Island and Kaledupa Island. An excellent regional restaurant features fish and other Exotic dishes (Padang, Java, Makassar) for around IDR 20,000 (USD 1.50) daily. But if you don’t feel like going anywhere, you always have the option to eat in-house restaurants in your homestay, resort, or even hotels. Among those restaurants would be Wakatobi’s very own Rock Bar: Wasabi Nua Resto, Wangi-Wangi.
Chilling out at a super trendy sunset restaurant with a cocktail in hand (or even a pure juice) while viewing the legendary tropical sunset with a 180-degree perspective of the vast sea is a must-do in Wakatobi. Perched about 5 meters over the sea on a rock cliff, this area resembles a highly humble version of the well-known Rock Bar at AYANA Bali.
Unlike Rock Bar, you won’t find long lines of people anxiously waiting under the sun to step inside to find the best seat. But we still advise you to go there first before the sun goes down. The outdoor setting is perfect for catching the sea breeze when hanging out at your preferred spot. To reach the valley where the restaurant is situated is another unforgettable experience. First, you have to walk along a narrow wooden bridge over the crystal clear sea. It’s obvious, you can even see little fish from the water! As for meals, you will find anything from hearty foods such as Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) to snacks like chips or Pisang Goreng Keju (banana fritters with cheese).
Address: Jl. Poros Sombu Bandara No. 5, Wangi-Wangi Island, Wakatobi Regency, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia. Opening Hours: 24 hours. Cost: From IDR 15,000 (USD 1.1).
