Every finished campaign has a team behind it. At Tinderflint, deciding who belongs on that team begins with the idea itself.
The London production company has stepped away from the traditional model of maintaining a fixed director roster. Instead, it builds a bespoke team for each brief, searching its global network for the director, filmmakers, photographers and specialists best suited to the project.
Founded in 2010, Tinderflint has spent sixteen years refining that approach. Its argument is that a long list of directors offers limited value if the same handful receive most of the work, while other talent goes unused.
Starting with the brief opens up a different conversation about creative fit, availability and budget. It can also give clients access to talent they might otherwise assume is beyond their reach.
“We’re seeing a shift away from asking ‘Who’s on your roster?’ towards ‘Who can you get us for this?'” says co-founder and Client Services Director Eliot Carroll.
“That feels like a much healthier conversation. Directors increasingly want the freedom to work with different production partners, while clients want confidence they’re getting the strongest creative fit. We think those two things can coexist.”
The company’s work spans broadcast campaigns, branded films, social-first content programmes and out-of-home photography for clients including Disney, Amazon, ASOS, Waitrose, Fender and the NSPCC.
Its involvement can cover the entire journey: creative development, production, photography, post-production and delivery. That gives clients a single point of contact and allows resources to be allocated across the project according to where they will make the greatest difference.
For projects already underway, Tinderflint can contribute at an individual stage, from supporting an agency’s creative idea to handling photography or the final post-production and delivery.
Co-founder and Executive Producer Rob Pitman says that complete production service has been central to the business from the beginning.
“Great work doesn’t come from following a formula. It comes from understanding the brief, understanding the budget, understanding the people, then bringing together the right expertise.”
As television, social platforms, creator-led content and AI change the creative landscape, Tinderflint is backing a flexible approach to making work. The starting point remains the same: understand the project, then build the team that can deliver it.
